LOTTERY POLICY

LOTTERY POLICY

If Chicago Collegiate receives more applications than we have spaces available, students will be chosen for entrance via a randomized and blind lottery.

For the 2021-22 school year, the application deadline is February 20, 2021, and the lottery will be held on February 23, 2021. The lottery will take place at Chicago Collegiate Charter School’s Middle School (11816 S. Indiana Ave.) at 5:00pm (this may change to remote given COVID 19 protocols), and it will be open to the public. All applicants will be reminded of the lottery date as it approaches, but applicants/their families need not be present in order to secure their spot if their name is chosen. No proximity lottery will be held.

The lottery is run by an automated, randomized software program called SchoolMint. Siblings of current Collegiate students are given priority in admission, which as long as sibling status is noted at the time of application, the program will be set up to select siblings first. Priority will also be given to students returning from an expulsion who have completed their expulsion term. CPS will be provided a video of the lottery and a summary of results via email by March 1, 2021.

Any students not offered a spot immediately will be put on a waitlist, in the order selected by the randomized software. Future applicants that come in after February 20, 2021 will either be accepted on a rolling basis post-lottery if space allows, or added to the waitlist for their grade, in the order the application is received.

Families will be notified if they were selected in the lottery via email and/or text by Wednesday, February 24, 2021 and via USPS mail by Friday, February 26, 2021. Families will have three weeks to respond to confirm their seat - families drawn in the lottery will have until March 24, 2021. Acceptance confirmation and the start of the enrollment process can be done online, on the phone, or in person at the school. Families will also be notified if their students are placed on a waitlist, and that we will begin accepting students off the waitlist after March 25.

Families that are on the waitlist will be accepted on a rolling basis as spaces become available. Up through July 2021, families will have two to three weeks to respond to accept and hold their space - again, via online, phone, or in person. In August 2021, as the first day of school approaches, families will be given three business days to respond to confirm their space and begin enrollment, or it will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.
